SCHOONER IN A GALE.

SECOND MATE INJURED. P«r Pr»si Association NEW PLYMOUTH, April 3. The schooner' Holmwood, which arrived on Thursday afternoon after 21 days’ passage from Newcastle, had an extremely rough trip, and on Wednesday with tattered sails was caught in tho surf at Farewell Spit. Mountainous seas covered her deck with sand and shells. The truss of the foreyard was carried away, followed by the jaws of the main gaff, The second mate, Mr Whitton, being injured by the flying timber. A change of wind at a critical moment enabled the vessel to regain the open sea.
