WEATHER IN MARCH
VERY FINE MONTH. LIGHT RAINFALL RECORDED. Mr T. R. Moore, of “Waimana,” Terrace End, reports that the following is the rainfall recorded for the month of March:
Total 2.26 Rain fell on 11 days in March, 1926, for 2.26 inches. In March, 1925, there were nine days on which rain fell for 2.09 inches. In an interesting memorandum Mr Moore states: March, which is the first month of autumn in New Zealand, and corresponds with September in Britain, has on the whole been a very fine month, with a light rainfall. For the first 22 days only 64 points of rain had fallen, but on the 23rd a very heavy squally rain came up from south and south-east with a gale behind it, and 94 points were registered. The v/eather then became very cold, with the thermometer down to 36 degrees. On the afternoon of the 2Gth a nice warm rain set in from the north-west, but in the night the wind changed to heavy squalls of rain, and 54 points wore registered next morning. The gale continued without rain and with a high glass. Beautiful weather followed up to tho 31st, when rain again fell at night with dull and cloudy weather and a strong breeze from the north-west, and the glass fell five points in 48 hours. Winds were moderate, with the exception of a westerly gale on tho 10th and south and south-east gales on the 23rd and 27th. TLe atmospheric pressure was high all through the month; 30.3 J on six occasions being the highest, and the lowest 29.8 on the 12th. The temperature was low, 68 degrees on the J4th being tho highest, the lowest being 36 degrees on tho 25th and 42 degrees on the 27th. April came in dull and cloudy, and with a fretli breeze from the northwest and more showers probable. Tho glass was steady at 29.8 at time of writing. METEOROLOGIST’S FORECAST. COLD NIGHT FREDICTED. The Government meteorologist telegraphed to-day: The indications are for westerly winds, strong to gale at times. The weather will probably be cool and changeable, witli scattered showers, and tho night will probably be very cold. Tho barometer is unsteady.
