CONTROL OF RUGBY
NEW ZEALAND IN THE LEAD. DOMINATES NEW SOUTH WALES. INTERCHANGE OF VISITS. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received April 1, 9.25 a.m. SYDNEY, April 1. Smiths Weekly comments regarding the New South Wales Rugby Union’s annual meeting that the JSew Zealand delegation dominated tho proceedings. It states: “No feature of Rugby politics since war stands out so much as tho union’s subservience to New Zealand. It has almost invariably happened in financial transactions involved in the interchange of touring teams that New South Wales has held tho losing end of the stick, and this despite the fact that such tours have usually been chiefly in the interests of the Dominion.”
It points out that prior to the war New South Wales controlled overseas visits’, but since the war New Zealand has taken the lead.
The newspaper quotes figures to show that Now South Wales tours of New Zealand have almost always been profitable, whereas, under the present financial arrangements, New Zealand visits to New South Wales have been otherwise for the home side, and adds: “So probably it will go on. New Zealand will encourage the game in Sydney by an interchange of tours, hut from tho geographical nature of the situation she cannot help profiting at New South Wales’ expense. No wonder the Dominion committee men are such staunch New South Wales admirers as they proved themselves at the last meeting.”—Press Association.
