CROQUET. . (Iron) Our Own Correspondent.) Foxton and Shannon played off for tho final in tho inter club croquet matches at Levin on Tuesday. Tho rosulls wore as follows, Shannon players being mentioned first: Singles.—Mrs Brown (5) defeated Mrs McMurray (6) 26—22, Mrs Mason (12) lost to Mrs Mooro (2) 13 —26. Doubles. —Mesdames Aim (12) and McLaughan (12) last to Mcsdatnes Pearson (6i) and Parkes (7) 9 —26; Mesdames Watterson (12) and liocho (12) lost to Mesdames Owen (6) and Bryant (8i) 13 —26. Tho aggregate scores wore as follow: Levin 409, Foxton 362, Otaki 349, Shannon 286, Manakau 189. The results of Wednesday’s 30-minuto tournament, played on the local groen, were as follow:—Mrs Bryant and Miss Wanklyn 2£, Mesdames Ball and Woods 3, Owen and. Huntley 2j, Perreau and Mooro IJ. Mrs Owen won tho A championship with 68i points - Mrs Bryant securing second place with 62. Mrs Ball won tho B competition with 72£ points, Mrs Moore being placed second with 70 points. Tho handicap matches played this week resulted as follow: —Mrs Woods defeated Miss Wanklyn (8j) 26—21; Mrs Woods (3i) defeated Mrs McMurray (2|) 26 —20; Mrs Owen (2j) defeated Miss Wanklyn (8£) 26 —22. SWIMMING BATHS. A meeting of thoso interested in the movement to raise funds for public swimming baths was presided over by Mr M. E. Perreau. A letter was received from the Foxton Racing Club declining to join in tho organisation of an art union to raiso funds for swimming baths and sports purposes. It was decided that tho previous motion for tho allocation of funds over and above those for the baths be rescinded and that the following bo the allocation: Swimming baths £2000; balance, Easton Park 20 per cent; Bowling Club 20 per cont, Tennis Club 20 per cent, other sports bodies 20 per cent. The chairman said that Mr Hene McMillen, acting on behalf of the Maori ownoi'3 of tho section adjoining the school, had informed Mr Hutchins that tho sito was to bo given for swimming baths. A discussion took place in which it was stated that the School Committee had first mado overtures for acquiring tho land to extend tho girl’s play ground and since then it had been suggested that tho site bo used for High School buildings. Other sites considered suitablo for swimming baths were suggested. It was finally decided to leavo tho question of a sito over until a later date and to concentrate on tho money-raising effort. The chairman pointed out that it was nocessary to have the value of the prizes in gold in the bank. He had approached several townspeople to act as guarantors and to deposit £SOO in the bank and they had signified their willingness to do so. Tho matter was left in tho hands of the Mayor and organiser. It was decided that on the money being lodged tho organiser proceed with the art union, those who guaranteed tho money being added to the committee, and that six per cent, interest bo paid to them. 'Tho sum of £IOO was promised by one gentleman in tho room.

Mr F. Woods was appointed treasurer and the Mayor, treasurer and organiser wore authorised to operato on the bank account. y

Messrs R. Warwick, J. K. Ilornblow and E. Healey were added to the committee.

Malcolm Mason, son of Mr F. A. Mason, headmaster of the local State School, sustained slight concussion of the brain through _ falling from a tree while playing. His condition is not serious
