DISCUSSION ON THE ACT.
Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 31
At a meeting of delegates from county councils to consider the Main Highways Act tho following resolutions were carried: —“That this meeting is in favour of one representative from borough councils being appointed to district councils; that the Main Highways Board be asked to grant a subsidy of £2 for £1 in place of the present £1 for £1 subsidy for the construction and maintenance of highways; that tho board be asked to consider purchasing road-making machinery in tho best markets for disposal to local bodies at cost price, preference to be given to British manufacturers; that the provisions of the Act be altered so that tho subsidy for tho maintenance of bridges on main highways be not less than £2 for £l.”
