HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. NEXT SHOW IN MARCH. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Horticultural Society was held last night, Mr AV. H. Chapman presiding. ANNUAL REPORT. Tho annual report of tho committee stated that the society had enjoyed a most successful year.. The membership, which stood at I<o, was most satisfactory, as the success of the society depended upon the strength of its membership. The subscription was very moderate and it was to bo hoped that present members would endeavour to secure new ones. Three shows wore held during the year, the number of entries being 430, 430 and 580 respectively. It was proposed to hold another show in March, which would mean four shows during the year. For a town of the size of Palmerston North the attendance at the shows was disappointing. Thanks were due to those ladies and gentlomen who had acted as judges at the various shows, the stewards and the donors of prizes. At the beginning of the year Mr G. W. Arlidgo advised that he would be unablo to carry on the work of secretary and Mr J. Galland was elected to tho position, Mr W. H. Chapman being elected chairman of tho committee. A number of ladies organised a most successful card party in aid of the funds and their action was much appreciated by tho committee. During the year material in the form of vases, tubes, stands and casement cloth was obtained. Thanks were due to Mr A. C. Bradfield for storage of the society’s equipment. The receipts for the year were £165 0s sd, the credit balance being £3O 9s.—The report was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. A.
