Mrs Dr Barnett, acoompanied by three of her children, is on a visit to the Dunedin Exhibition.
The many friends of Mrs H. Griggs, of 15 Queen street, who underwent an operation on Friday, will be pleased to learn that she is making an excellent recovery.
Miss Orr-Ewing, who has spent many months in New Zealand with Their Excellencies the Governqr-Gen-eral and Lady Alice Ferguson, sailed by the Marama on Friday from Auckland for Australia, en route for England.
Miss Drew, M.A., for many years on the staff of the New Plymouth Girls’ High School, has returned to New Plymouth after a prolonged visit to friends in England and to her brother (Rev. Dewdney Drew) in South Africa).
The many friends of Mra T. Mitchell, of 54 Cuba street, will regret to leam that she is at present in a Wellington hospital suffering from a fracture of the left leg. While attending the Trentham races on Saturday, Mrs Mitchell had the misfortune to sustain a heavy fall as a result of slipping on the grandstand steps.
Among the passengers to arrive from London by the Ruahine on Saturday was Miss Gwyneth Tanner, daughter of Mr Cyril Tanner, barrister, of Wellington. During the war Miss Tanner did valuable work with the lied Cross Society. Her only brother died whilst serving with the British forces under General Maude in Mesopotamia.

Caughley and Mrs O'Donnell, 26—0. In the open championship, Caughlcy beat Mrs Leech, 2—o. NURSING HOME CLOSED. ASHBURTON, Jan. 25. A private nursing homo was closed last week by order of tho medical officer of health from North Canterbury. Tho health authorities deelino to give the name of the hospital, or the reason for its being closed.
