BATTLE OF PUSHES.

MELBOURNE CLASHES. ,f “TIGERS” v. “WANDERERS.” SYDNEY, Jan. 14. “Pushes” have again made their presence felt in Melbourne, and last Friday waged a terrific battle in Fawkner. The battle is said to have been caused by tlio visit of a member of the rival “push” to a sister of one of the Collingwood mob. The “Wanderers,” as tho Collingwood “push” style themselves, commandeered four taxi cabs, and 30 of them drovo to an hotel at Fawkner where tho rival mob was assembled. Armed with iron bars, bottles and spanners they attacked the hotel and dragged the offender from his bed. Meanwhile tho opposing “push” had been summoned and attempted to rescue their mate. In the melee seven young men were knocked senseless. Ambulance and police patrols were soon on the scene, and the injured were taken to hospital, where they were treated for head wounds.

Two of them were admitted in a serious condition. Almost simultaneously the Fitzrov “Tigers” invaded Collingwood, and while tho local talent was away in the other battle wrought havoc in their headquarters. Word was sent to the returning victors from Fawkner, and they rushed to Hood street, ' Collingwood, where the Collingwood party was still operating. Another battle ensued, and it was not until a strong party of jiolice came on the scene that the strife ceased. Six arrests have been made.
