MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
TO-DAY’S BUSINESS. Mr j. L. Stout, S.M., presided over this morning’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. Biding a bicycle at night without a light cost Louis Shultz 10s, with costs 7s. For committing a breach of ms prohibition, Andrew David Dennan was fined £2, with costs 7s. Excessivo speed while driving a motor car ’in I'itzherbort street cost A. McMillan £2, with costs 7s. Annie Clark, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, pleaded guilty to _a charge that, on December 12, 1925, she did allow intoxicating liquor to bo supplied to Allen Wilton, a person apparently under tho age of 21 years, and was fined £V with costs 7s. John McDovitt was charged that, being a person other than the licenseo, he did supply Wilton with the liquor, and, pleading guilty, was fined £2, with costs 9s. Tho discharging of an air gun in Ferguson street on January 2 cost Pierce James Cotter, 17 years of age, £2, with costs 7s. MOTOR, CYCLIST FINED. Albert Philip Hart, a young man, was charged that, on December 27 at Ashhurst, ho did ride a motor eyele in a manner dangerous to the public. Defendant, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty. Constablo Fisher, stationed at Ashhurst, gavo evidence that ho had seen defendant carrying a lady passenger on tho back, doing about 40 miles an hour. As it was a Sunday morning, with people going to church, there was danger to tho public. This evidence was supported by two other Ashhurst residents, but was contradicted by defendant, his father and two youths. The magistrate said ho was satisfied that defendant had been travelling at an unreasonable speed, and imposed a fine of £2, with court costs and witnesses’ expenses.
