SAD FATALITY.

YEAR-OLD CHILD

DROWNED IN POND

The nineteen-months old child of Mrs A. Brown, housekeeper for Mr and Mrs G. Lyne, of Long Melford road, Awapuni, was found drowned ill a fountain pond on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after half-past one the child —a boy— was missed and a search of the grounds was made, but without success. The infant had last been seen alive when playing about the house half an hour previously. Proceeding through an opening iii the fence to Mr H. Mudgway’s property, the searchers shortly before two o’clock found the baby lying face downward in about 14 inches of water in a fountain pond, situated nearly 100 yards from Mr Lyne’s residence. After attempts at resuscitation had proved unavailing, the body was removed to the house.

An inquest will be held in the course of a day or two.
