EXPEDITION TO NEW GUINEA.

FAVOURABLE INDICATIONS,

Received January 22, 9.40 a.m. * SYDNEY, Jan. 22. Tlio geological surveyexpedition, which spent nine months sear ching for oil in New Guinea, has returned to Sydney. The leader states that they explored an area of a thousand square miles in the Aitapo district, 18 miles from the Dutch border, a good deal of which had never previously been penetrated by whites, but the natives wero friendly. The indications of oil surpassed expectations and conclusively proved the presence of petroleum. Another expedition will he sent to begin boring operations, which tho geological survey lias justified.—Press Association.
