THE PRICE OF BREAD.
POSSIBILITY OF INCREASE.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. If, as a result of the wheat-growers’ conference, the Government reverts to a free market, there is a possibility that the price of flour will be increased by £2 10s per ton, with a consequent rise in tho price of bread. Mr Corson, chairman of directors of Distributors, Ltd., last night said that the maximum price for flour had r ot been fixed, but millors had agreed with tho Government to sell at £lB per ton if tho prices offorod for wheat were maintained. “If tho farmers aro going to got, say, 7s 3d a bushel for wheat, that will mean an increaso of about £2 10s in the prico of flour, and Id will be added to tho price of the 41b loaf.”
