ESCAPED PRISONER.

RETAKEN BY POLICE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 19. Peno Karakiakoro, who escaped from tho Alount Eden prison yesterday, was recaptured to-day. He was seen entering a liouso in the Grey Lynn district. The polico surrounded tlio whole block, and when he dashed out a pack of police and civilians followed him. Ho was retaken in an open paddock, and offered no resistance. Ho escaped while working in a garden near the superintendent’s house, outsido the walls, but closo to tho main entranco of tho prison.
