LOSS OF SHENANDOAH.

INQUIRY COURT’S FINDING.

NAVY DEPARTMENT ABSOLVED FROM BLAME.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 1. The Court of Inquiry into the loss of tho Shenandoah has absolved the Navy Department from all blame, declaring that tho ship’s destruction was due principally to external sources arising from the high velocity of tho air currents. Tho court was unable to determine whether prior minor damage due to gas pressure was tho determining factor, but stated that the Shenandoah was sound in design and construction when built, and deterioration of tho structural material was not responsible. Tho court found that Commander Lansdowno expressed no opposition or reluctance to undertake tho flight, as was claimed by his widow, and pronounced tho disaster as “part of the price which must inevitably be paid in tho development of any now hazardous art.”—A. and N.Z. cable.
