BITTEN BY A WILD PIG.

• SPORTSMAN LOSES THUMB. THIRTY MILES TO HOSPITAL. THAMES, Dec. 28. A pig hunting expedition on Boxing Day by a party of three Thames residents was painfully terminated, as far as one member was concerned. The party set out from Thames for Waikawau and shortly after scaling the first ridge Mr Albert Senior located a wild boar held by two dogs. Grasping the pig by the left- ear he was doing good work with the knife in his right hand when his left slipped into the mouth of the infuriated animal, which savagely lacerated the man’s thumb, biting it off at the second joint. First aid was given by his companions and Mr Senior arrived at the Thames Hospital after a painful 30-mile ride on horseback.
