FITZHERBERT WEST
CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES. On Boxing Day the Fitzherbert West Loyal Temperance League and Bible Class to the number of about 50 met at the home of Mr and Mrs T. Young; and amid ideal weather conditions enjoyed quite a gala day, with games, swings, races, etc.. In the evening, an appreciative audience of parents and friends (who increased the number present to about 90) gathered in tho large dining room to listen to songs and recitations rendered by the young people, and to witness the unloading of the large Christmas tree by the “Father Christmas” of venerable appearance (in the person of Mr Croucher) who, amid shouts of merriment caused by his amusing remarks, E resented the gifts to tile delighted oys and girls. May Harris obtained the proud distinction of winning the medal awarded to the member of the L.T.L. who gained the greatest number of new members during the year, tho number secured by her reaching the total of 44. This energetic young lady also carried off tho first attendance prize, tho second being gained by Tallott Lovelock. Just prior to the breaking up of the party, words of thanks and appreciation to the host and hostess were voiced by Mr Saunders, endorsed by Mr Lovelock, and carried with cheers, and the singing of “For they are Jolly Good Fellows.”
