SHOPLIFTING.
NOT EXTENSIVE IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. Shoplifting in Auckland during the Christmas holidays has apparently not been as extensive as it sometimes is at thi3 season, when largo crowds in the various establishments afford an opportunity for petty thefts. “The shopping crowds this year have been larger than ever, yet never moro orderly,” the proprietor of one of Auckland’s leading stores said yesterday. “It is, of course, very hard to say. whether small articles have been stolen from the counters, but a strict watch is always kept over the busy period.” Minor offences have come under the notice of shopkeepers in Karangahape road, where the Christmas Eve crowds were exceptionally large. Nothing of a very valuable nature was stolen, but small articles were taken from sets, which practically destroyed tho value of what remained.
