ATHLETIC UNION.
NEW ZEALAND CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 29. The annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union commenced this morning. The annual report expressed disappointment at the attitude of the Northern Union, stating that the New Zealand Union took the trouble to spend a good deal of money to hold out a disqualified competitor, D. Pretty, the well-known axeman. When the New Zealand Union asked the Northern Union to protect the Northland Centre against a defaulter it got no reply. In its annual report the Northern Union stated that tho New Zealand Union was Jjiffiliated with some farmers’ clubs. The only clubs so affiliated were those running unregistered meetings. The report recommended the conference to withdraw the New Zealand Union’s arrangement with the Northern Union and give authority to form a centre. ' Tho president, Mr Hansen, said that if the roport was adopted it would bo cutting the painter with the northern body. Mr Collingwood said that it was only a recommendation to the conference. The report was adopted.
