REDUCED ARMAMENTS.
COMING CONFERENCE AMERICAN PARTICIPATION. NEW YORK, Dec. 24. The New York Times’s Washington correspondent states that the obstacles to the United States’ official participation in the League of Nations preliminary disarmament conference have apparently been overcome. It is learned that the Minister to Switzerland, Mr Gibson, will represent the United States at Geneva in February.
A conference between President Coolidge and Senators Borah, Lenroot and Moses cleared the way to the decision. It is learned that an agreement between the President and Senator Borah provides for participation under the following conditions: (1) That the United States does not join any security pacts arranged at the conference; (2) that the decision reached at the conference bo enforced by the League, leaving each Government bound only by the agreements made at the conference; (3) that no agreement shall pirovido for a reduction of the United States’ land armament.
It is also ascertained that the outcome of the preliminary conference to determine American participation in further armament conferences to bo arranged was that there was no agreement. —A. and N.Z. cable.
