TAIKGREA. (From Onr Own Correspondent.) The funeral of the lato Mr Patrick Ilehir took placo on Saturday at tho Rongotea cemetery, when thero was a large gathering of residents from all parts of the district to pay a mark of respect to the memory of deceased. Tho floral tributes received were also vory numerous, testifying to tho respect and esteem in which tho late Mr Ilehir was held. The service was conducted by Rev. Father Doo. laghty in an impressive manner. At tho Anglican Church servico at Taikorca on Sunday last tho Vicar Rev. Tremaine, referred to the loss the district had sustained by tho untimely death of Mr P. Hehir. Universal sympathy was felt for tho relatives of the deceased, who

was ono of tho oarliest settlors. 110 had borne his share of the toil and hardship incidental to the making of a now country and ho had made good in tho highest sense of the words. lie had proved a loving father and his love had been recipro/cated by his children. His probity, kindliness, hospitality and goodwill towards his neighbours were examples that all might follow with advantago. lie had been called to his rest suddenly and tho shock io his family was undoubtedly very severe, but it would surely be somo eonsolatio'. to think that his years might have been so unduly prolonged that tho earthly tabernacle would have been worn out and ho would have been glad to pass away.
