DRAINAGE AFFAIRS
MANAWATU BOARD MEETS. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Drainage Board was held yesterday, Mr E. Wood presiding. Others present were Messrs J. and D. Collis, jX. P. Neilsen, JL J. Burrell and E. \V. Collins. The overseer (Mr W. J. Coman) reported that Mitchell’s drain had been cleared and that it was expected to complete the work at Whisky creek today. Two men were at work clearing slips from Leigh’s drain and two were engaged in the Mangaono river. The latter workmen would ho sent to Bunnythorpe-Kairanga road drain. He had inspected the Mangawhata drain and found that the Maoris had commenced cleaning their portions. The water, however, could not get away until Mr Pearce’s property received attention. It had taken 16' days to clear the Government Reserve drain.— Adopted. The State Advance Office wrote advising that the board’s application lor a loan of £4BOO could not be entertained at present. The Kairanga County Council advised that it was prepared to pay half the eost of cleaning the drain at Messrs Harrison and Lett's property. The outstanding rates, according to the clerk’s report, were as follow: General £2386 0s 7d; special-general, £lO2 Is; special £274 15s 6d.^ Accounts amounting to £157 14s 4d were passed for payment.
