CANTERBURY MARKETS.

Per Pres* Association CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. The wheat returns published early in the week aro confirming tho early season forecasts that the average yield in Canterbury of 33i bushols por aero and for the Dominion of 33 bushels is in advance of tho official and some other estimates. Most interest centres around the oats market. Any idea, that may have prevailed that the crop would be a short one has been dispelled by the latest official returns. The Dominion thrashings reported to mid-June —not the actual thrashings ' which materially would swell the figure—aro over 5,000,000 bushels. If the' actual thrashings were reported, the total would probably be another million bushels, and ih addition, there is still a quantity in stack which may bo thrashed. The changed viewpoint the figures have brought, about in the south is evidenced by the fact that offers are now free from that quarter at 4s 6d through store for Gal lons, and 4s 2d for Bs, with buyers hard to find. Potato activity lias subsided to some extent. Quotations at the moment for July shipment aro £5 15s to £6. T-he Katoa is due to leave- Lyttelton on Tuesday, but as the stores aro cleared out of stocks and as potatoes cannot be dug for some time and the pits will not be opened for a while, the prospects of a sufficient shipment to meet requirements is uncertain. Quotations locally on trucks are to £4 10s, with little offering. There has been a sharp rise in the prico of onions and purchases have been made at from £9 10s to £lO on trucks, sacks extra. There are few local onions available, the season being about over. LONDON WOOL SALES.
