SHANNON NOTES.

ANNUAL MEETING OF BOWLING CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent,) At tile annual meeting of the Shannon. Bowling Club there wus a fair attendance, the president (Mr W. Clayton) presiding. Tho balance-sheet, which was read and adopted, showed that the club commenced the year with a debit balance of £33 17s 7d. Subscriptions, donations and nett receipts from urt union totalled £lB5 18s 2d, and the expenditure was £157 6s, leaving a debit balance of £5 5s sd.

The president, in his report, stated that it wus very gratifying to wind up the season with such a small debit balance, considering that extra money had been spent on the green, new implements bought, and improvements carried out to the fences and ladies’ pavilion. The club sent two rinks to the Dominion tourna-

ment, which had not happened before, two rinks to tho Manawatu centre’s tournament, two rinks to Wanganui, and one to the Nelson tournament. The club was not successful in winning the shield, but nevertheless put lip some good games. This was the first year they had had the croquet players with them, and it was pleasing to note the progress that the club had made. All the croquet material had

been paid for and thanks were due to Mr J. V. Burns for hi.s assistance in this matter. The Croquet Club had also paid to have its lawn extended 18 feet. Difficulty lmd been found in past years in finishing the singles, pairs and rink games owing to the difficulty of members observing different- week day holidays. The installing of electric light should help them in this matter, enubling them to complete the games in tho evening.
