BOWLING.
PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. The report of the president (Mr G. H. Trott) to be presented to the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Bowling Club to be held this month, records that the club is now in a sound financial position. Continuing, it states: Since the last annual meeting the Palmerston North Bowling Green Company, Ltd., has been dissolved, and its interest merged into the Palmerston North Bowling Club. Tho club’s property in Lombard street has been sold, and a new pavilion ereeted on the Tuonui street green, which will considerably reduce tho club’s liability in the future. A number of players left us prior to the opening of the season, but we dosed with a financial membership of 60. Your committee confidently anticipates an increase during the doming season. Although the balance-sheet discloses a loss on the year's working, the finances of the Club must be considered satisfactory. The deficit'was duo to the extraordinary expenditure last year—interest, legal expenses, rates, etc., £IOO of which should not be recurring. The estiriiaies of receipts and expenditure show that future balances will enable the committee to repay a few debentures ouch year. Your committee urges upon members tho necessity for tho prompt payment of subscriptions, not only to aid the club’s finances, but to assist the treasurer in his duties. An excellent social spirit was maintained throughout the year, tho . inter-club gutties being of particular benefit in promoting good-fellowship among the players of the town. We were enabled to entertain, on behalf of the Manawatu Bowling Centre,/<eight visiting rinks from Taranaki. Many of tho club competitions were dispensed with last year, the champion singles, pairs and rinks only being played. Tho champion singles player was Mr J. H. Nash; Messrs J. H. and N. H. Nash were the winners of the club’s champion pairs, while Messrs Rowling, Morris, Trott and W. E. Jones represented the dub in the champion rinks. Your committee congratulates Messrs J. 11. Nash, M. Pickering, A. Pickering and I*\ Needhum on their win in tho No. 2 Rotorua tournament; and Messrs J. 11. Nash, E. Tuttersull, O. Perry and O. 1). Fraser, who were the runners-up in tno centre’s Easter tournament. Visitors were loud in their praise of the green last season. This was largely due to the untiring efforts of the green supervisors, Mr A. Pickering, who acted in the early part of the season, and Mr G. G. Wilson, who at present has the work in hand. We regret to repord tho deaths during tho year of Messrs W. C. Brophy, A. Drew (life member), and T. Childs, who were former members of the club, and we tender their relatives our sympathy in their bereavement. To make distinction is invidious, but your committee wishes to place on record its appreciation of the services rendered tho ,clnb by Mr Geof. Tremaine in the legal work in the transfer of property; to Mr W. E. Jones, for the effiieent manner in which lie has carried out the duties of treasurer, especially in relation to the transfer of the old accounts of the club; and to the secretary (Mr J. E.| Pat-on) for his efforts on the club’s behalf. Your committee looks forward with confidence to the coming season being one of the most successful in the club’s history.
