THE EVENING POST.

CELEBRATES DIAMOND JUBILEE. It was tha independent spirit and determination of Mr Henry Blundell, a. Dublin 7nan, that made for the establishment of the Evening Post, the Wellington evening newspaper, that celebrated its diamond jubilee on Saturday last. For 27 years ho nad managed the Dubl'in Evening Mail, but he emigrated to New Zealand when 47 years of age, and on February 8, 1865, the first daily newspaper of the capital city was printed. Sixty years ago the paper had its four modest pages of reading matter —to-day its pages vary from twelve to twenty-four, and more for special issues, while the present jubilee number is a magnificently produced newspaper of 48 pages. It tells and 9hows the story of Wellington's progress from a straggling town to a modern attractive city; it tells of the many vicissitudes of the pioneering days. It shows pictures of Willis street and Manners fctreet and other main thoroughfares when they had only a few dilapidated oneaiureyed shop» and the modern streets with their fine high buildings and maze of traffic. On Saturday the spirit of co-operation existing between employees and proprietors of the Evening Post was expressed at a gathering hold at the Board Room when a handsome illuminated address was presented to the members of the firm to mark the diamond jubilee. Advantage was also taken of the occasion to present a silver rosebowl to Mr Louis Blundell, the senior director, in token of the esteem in which he is held in honour of his sixty, years* association. Mr J. Parker, editor, tendered hearty congratulations and good wishes to the directors, and in presenting the address stated that tiie jubilee could not but be gratifying to all ooncerned, and the great achievement had been made possiblo by the solid and sure foundations on which the Post hod been laid. The proprietors appreciation wa» happily expressed by MessM Ernest, Louis and Walter Blundell.
