GUN CLUB
RESUMPTION OF SHOOTS. Under unfavourable weather conditions, the Palmerston North Gun Club conducted tho first shoot of 1925 on Saturday afternoon, when the recently-purchased automatio trap was in use for the first time. Notwithstanding tho very gusty wind, which baffled the shooters tirflo md again, some excellent scores were returned. The new trap was very favourably commented on, it giving greater speed and enabling double rise shooting to be indulged in. In tho first trophy shoot, R. Marshall and C. Podjursky secured the maximum of eight birds each, Marshall proving the winner in tho shoot-off. J. Donald," With seven "kills," and H. Best and G. H. Fitt with six were the next best scores. In the first sweepstake of eight birds, P. A, Meehan and C. Podjursky, with seven birds each, shot off for the money, the first-named winning, ther good scores were: K. Thomson 6, A. Thomson, J. Donald and H. Best 5 each. The double rise shoot of six birds set the gunmen the hardest task of the_ day. J Donald proved the winner with eight points, P. A. Meehan, G. H. Fitt, H. Best and R. Marshall being second with six points each. K. Thomson, J. Donald, R. Marshall, G. H. Fitt and O. Podjursky, with six birds each, shot off for the first place in the second sweepstake of eight birds, oight extra clays being required to determine tho winner, who proved to be G. H. Fitt. Two quail drives, which were then held, were both won by A. Thomson. The club is holding an open shoot at the end of this month, when sportsmen will be present from a large number of North Island oluba.
