JANUARY CONDITIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. The weather summary for January slidws that the rainfall was general fr >m the 25th ,to the 27th owing to es-tropical disturbances passing over tl e North Island, and though some hi avy " rainfalls were also experienced ' alout tho 12th, the month was on tie whole rather dry, and with the ej ception of Hawke's Bay and Canterbury districts and the eastern parts 01 Wellington the total monthly rainfalls were below the average. The ninfalls about the 26th were most bineficial and relieved a rather trying ti lie for farmers and graziers in most puts of the country. The weather was remarkably dry in many parts of Otago. The last ten days of the nonth were very unsettled, especially ii the northern and East Coast disti icts. For example, at Maraehako station, near Opotiki, it rained every dly from tho 21st to the close of the n onth, the total rainfall for this period' bung 8.78 inches, of which 2.60 inches aid 2.98 inches fell on the 25th and 2 Ith respectively. The mean temperatures were above tie average, but there were cold snaps ajout the Jlth, 17th and 26th, which d d some damage. The barometric p -essure was rather higher than usual a id though subject to frequent changes tie fluctuations were not extreme. The wins were moderate for the greater p irt of the month and skies rather n ore cloudy than might have been exacted, considering the small number o: rainy days.
