GREAT BUTTER YIELD

AUCKLAND'S RECORD SEASON.

INCREASE WORTH £650,000,

Records in butter production m the Auckland province continue to bo established this season (says the Herald). The receipts at tho grading stores for December totalled 259,257 boxes, compared with 207,777 in December. 1923, an increane of 51,480 boxes. This exceeds by 39,233 boxes the previous record i'or December established in 1922. The season's output to the end of December is also a record. From July 1 to December 31 the quantity received for grading; totalled 884,578 boxes, compared with 725,416 for the corresponding period of 1923, on increase of 159,162 boxes. Theso figures surpass the record total for tho period established in 1922 hv 113,725 boxes. The fact that there is still a progressive weekly increase in output indicates that a great record in production will be established this season provided favourable weather is experienced during the autumn. Hitherto the conditions have been exceptionally good. Cheese received at the grading stores during December totalled 20,792 crates, compared with 23,921 received in December, 1923, a deciease of 3129 crates. The cheese receipts for the season to the end of December totalled 60,818 crates, against 71,232 for the similar period, of the previous season, a decrease of 10,414 crates. Tho.steadiness of the butter market in London has been a feature of the season, but there was a slight decline last week owing to heavy arrivals from New Zealand and Australia. The latest quotation for New Zealand butter was 188 sto 190 s per cwt. This is equal to about Is 6d to Is 6Jd per lb. At this price the increased output of 159,162 boxes this season represents a gain to the producers of the province of over £650,000.
