CROYDON AIR SMASH.

AUSTRALIAN VICTIM. LONDON, Dec. 25. There was on© Australian victim of the Croydon a ir smash, Mrs W. Bailey, a widow, aged 54. Bhe arrived from iloh*rt in November, and stayed"_at Twickenham, as a guest or her eon-in-law. Captain Stevenson, formerly commander of H.M.A.S. Adelaide, and now navul liaison officer at Australia House. Captain Stevenson and his wife bade farewell to Mrs Bailey at Victoria Station at 10.30 am- Captain Stevenson returned to Australia House, and the first he learned of the tragedy was from the evening newspaper posters. Mrs Bailey was going to' Paris to spend Christmas with another daughter, intending afterwards to proceed to Switsierland for six weeks. Her luggage, which contained jewellery, and £4OO in notes, was burnt,, and, her remains were unrecognisable. Mrs Bailey originally, had no intention of flying to Paris, but she met a friend last week who had flown from Paris, and she' was so enraptured by her friend's account of the wonderful exper.eiice that she decided to alter her plans, and booked by aeroplane. She wa» in a most cheery mood this morning, excitedly anticipating the journey, as she had never seen an aeroplane at close quarters. She wa§ booked by ft later aeroplane, but learned that a seat was vacant in the first machine, and accepted it readily, saying, "I'm always a sport." Mrs Bailey made the voyage to Britain specially to visit ber married daughters in London and Paris. MRS BAILEY"WELL KNOWN IN TASMANIA, HOBART, Dec. 26. Mrs Bailey, one of the victims of the an'-oplone disaster, was a native of Hobart, and the youngest daughter of Captain Langdon, R.N, end M.L.C, Tasmania. She was a sister to. Mrs Mclntyre, wife of Hon. John Mclntyre, formerly a judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, and was related to wellknown families, including Mr G. H. Bailey, diocesan registrar of the Church of England and the first Tasmahian member of an Australian cricket team to visit England.
