Yesterday the Seventh Day Alventists of the North Island completed a ten clays' spiritual conference on the Wang-inui racecourse. Some 400 delegates f)om all parts of the Island attended. Pastor H. M. Blunden, of Auckland, presided throughout and announced that as tho result of offertories and practical assistance ficm sympathisers the sum <i £1265 would be available for mission purposes. These figures he considered in the light of a record for the denomination. This is the first occasion in six years that the seot held their annual retreat in Wanganui. From all accounts the tourist traffic up the Wanganui river has shown an appieciable increase on former years. This re suit may be explained in the fact that a number of trippers who are annually attracted to the Franz Joseph giacier give their preference to the 'river this season for the obvious reason that with the warm rains peculiar this time cf the ynor f,n the higher levels surrounding the glacial legion and the consequent flooding of rivers and creeks, the tourists' chances of a mere enjovable vacation "up tho river" no more assured than :"n the case of flooded waterways and incidental dhconifcrt farther south.—Chronicle.
