PROLONGED LIFE.
VORONOFF'S EXPERIMENTS. "NO ONE NEED DIE". LONDON, D,3c. 28. "I am convinced that no one need die till tired of life, but may retain his youthful faculties for ever," says Professor Voronoff, the Russian scientist, in an article in the Sunday Pictorial, his first contribution to any newspaper. "Interstial glands might bo taken six hours after death from young men killed in accidents, and preserved for one or two days in special liquids. Monkey glands would be more practicable, and equally as good. "Though my operation on 800 human peiings have indisputably re- ■ suited in improved memory and vitality, and often in better sight, hearing, and a re-growth of hair, they do not yet conclusively prove a prolongation of life, because the first operation was performed in 1920, and the oldest patients were 83 years of age. "'On the contrary, experiments on shorter-living animals have been definite. In 1918 I operated on a number of toothless, glazed-eyed, skin-and-bone rams, aged 12 and 14 years. At present one has reached the age of 20, has become vigorous and full of youthful ardour, and is the proud father of three lambs, which were born in 1919, 1920 and 1923. He has already surpasssed a ram's record for longevity by five years, and will probably attain double the normal age. Experiments have shown that a second grafting is as effective as the first."
