Play in the Ilawko Cup preliminary between Manawatu and Wairarapa was continued at tlie Sportsground this morning, weather conditions not being very promising, when Burke and Eyre, Munawatu’s notout batsmen, went to the wickets. The home team had lost four wickets for 225 runs when play was interrupted by rain yesterday, Burke’s and Eyre's unfinished contributions being 57 and 29 respectively. Renner opened the howling from the town end, Eyre sending his second delivery to leg for throe. Burke secured two boundaries off the remainder of the over. Watts came on at the other end and got Eyre l.b.w. with the fast ball. — 238 —5 —32. Donaldson went on and scored a single off the fifth hall of the over. Burke, with well-timed hits, continued to score rapidly all round tho wicket, and 250 was soon on the score board. However, a few runs later, Burke hit one from Renner to J. Patrick at.square leg •and was well caught.—2s96—55. The retiring batsman had scored at a very fast rate throughout and his total included eight fours. F. Bennett went on in his place. Singles continued to come frequently, the running between tho wickets being very good. When lie had scored eleven, and again at fifteen, Donaldson gave easy chance, but tho ball was dropped. Patrick went on and, after compiling two singles and a two, was howled by Hope—2ls—4—4. Hope’s average wus now four for 10. A. Patrick came on, but did not display, any confidence against Alanawalu’s last bowler. When his iscore stood at two he had a life, being missed by Bennett off McVicar. Harrison replaced McVicar, two singles coining off the over. Tim luncheon adjournment was then taken.
