The Minister of Public Works and Rail-, ways (lion. J. G. Coates) lias returned to Wellington from the south. At last evening’,s meeting of the Wellington Presbytery, Rev. James McC'aw was elected moderator. Air Harry McKeowen, of the West Coast railways, accompanied by Mrs Sitiveowen, is at present in town on departmental leave., Messrs 11. J, Patch and R. M. Stevens have been appointed dairy instructors and graders at Auckland and Wellington, respectively. Miss Gillet, private secretary to Lady .Tellicoe, is staying at Auckland until she leaves for Australia to join Lady Jellicoe ind travel with her to England. Mrs Hannington, relict of the late Mr George Hannington, passed away at an early hour this morning at Wanganui, where she hud resided' for over 60 years. The doceased lady was 73 years of age. Mr I l '. R. fieddon, of Hamilton, president of the Waikato A. and P. Association, has been appointed a member of the council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand. Dr. and Mrs J. Fawcett, of Miami, Florida, United States, who are on a world tour, are at present visiting New Zealand. Later they will leave for Australia.

Mr E. A. James, general secretary of the New Zealand Political Reform League, was taken seriously ill at Wellington on Monday night, but improved considerably .yesterday, and hopes to' be about again in a few days. A unanimous call lias been made by ilie Presbyterians of Petone to tlio Rev. John ('buries Loan, of Taihape. The call was sustained by the Wellington Presbytery, and the order is to be forwarded to tlio L’resbvtery of Wanganui, which controls i lie Taihape area. The high respect in which the memory of the lute Mr Peter Thomson, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, is held in (he Pahialua district was evident when liis funeral was attended by settlers and business people representative of the countryside. Many beautiful floral tributes Idled a motor car. Rev R. Whelch impressively conducted a short service in the Presbyterian Church and at the graveside. At a meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre the president of the Dominion association (Mr F. Meadowcroft) made reference to the death of the late Colonel R. J. Collins, a past president of the Dominion Bowling Association, and paid a •high tribute to him both as a bowler and a man. Mr S. Potter (president of the Wellington centre) also made feeling reference to the loss sustained by the Dominion Bowling Association in the death of his old friend. A vote of condolence and sympathy with his widow and family was carried in silence, all present standing.
