RONGOTEA.
CYCLE ROAD RACE. fFrom Our Own Correspondent.) The 12 mile cycle race held on Saturday afternoon created considerable interest locally. Spectators lined tho route at various places, while there .were a large number at tho finishing post. Ten competitors lined up for the start and although there was not a close finish leas than 30 secs separated the first and last riders, which reflects credit to tho handicappers. Mr Pedley (Rongotea) with a handicap of 2j minutes, proved the winner; ho rode strongly tliroughout, winning with several seconde to spare. The local rider, A. Gardner (scr.), secured fastest time, covering the 12 miles in 30 minutes. Following are tho positions and times of tho placed' riders: W. Pedley (Rongotea) 2iin. hdep., Ist, time 32.9; Casey (Palmerston NorLhj Imin. hdep., 2nd, time 30.50; P. Tato (Palmerston North) 1 min. hdeji., 3rd, time 30.54. Trophies wero donated by the Amateur Athletic Club and Mr H. Howell, the spectators also assisting by making a collection. A race over a distance of 18 miles will tnko place about tho middle of January.
