ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MOTOR CYCLIST INJURED,
Miss E. Piercy, of the teaching staff, of tlie Longburn School, met with an unfortunate mishap when proceeding to school yesterday morning. Miss Piercy, who rides out daily to Longburn from Palmerston North on her motor cycle, when passing a motor lorry on the road, encountered some loose gravel, and was thrown heavily from her machine, sustaining concussion and body injuries. She was removed to the residence of Mr C. C, Hills, headmaster of . the Longburn School, where' she. later received medical attention. FARMER SCALDED. The dangers attendant • upon handling electrical apparatus were demonstrated on Mr J. F. Clausen’s farm at Foxton Line. Mr Clausen was turning on the tap of an electric water-heater when he received a shock and, on attempting to lift the lid of the boiler to see what had happened, he was unable to do so, the .electric current securing a firm grip of his hand. Mr Clausen unfortunately pulled over the whole boiler and the boiling water scalded his legs and fet severely. He -is progressing favourably.
Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 1. A prisoner named Lander, aged 34, who was serving a life sentence, died suddenly ori Saturday in the local gaol. At the inquest the Coroner fourth a verdict of death due to heart failure.
