SHANNON NOTES.
HIGH SCHOOL. (Front Our Own Correspondent). The Chamber of Commerce hat* hail referred back to it from the department its application for a high school for Shannon, further information being sought by the authorities. —The information required hits now been forwarded, and 35 pupils have signified their intention of attending a high school. Tile minimum required by the department is 20 pupils. The intending scholars so far are mostly from Shannon; Tokomaru, Koputaroa. Moutoa and Makerun not having been canvassed at this stage. Messrs Fi.-hcr and Co., Palmerston North, have made a gift of shrubs to the Borough Council for the beautifying of our town. The Prime. Minister has replied that J l.i* Excellency She Govornor-Goueral regrets that, in view of the fact that ho is committed to other engagements in various parts of the North Inland during November, In* is unable to accept tin* invitation of the Mangalum celebrations executive lo attend the opening of the Mangtthao electric power works. Mr 11. Greedy is severing his connection with the Miranui Flax-milling Company, of which he has held the position of manager for some vears.
On Monday oveic'c a number of Dr. MacDonald's friends uei at the rouidenee of Mr T. Watterston to hid him farewell. During the evening. Mr Murray, on behalf of those present, in presenting the doctor with a brief bag, referred io his many line qualities and wished him bon voyage to England and a speedy return. Dr. MacDonald expects to sail for the Old Country on the 29ili hist.
