HERD TESTING.
RAXGIOTU ASSOCIATION. Final arrangements have now been made by the Rangiotu Dairy Farmers’ Union Herd Testing Association for the coming season. There will he three groups, and olio testing officer for each group, with approximately 5000 cows. The largest individual herd is 200 and the smallest 10. This number represents almost as many cows as was testpd in the whole of the South Island last year. All groups are now full und closed. There has never been such interest displayed and such a wide representation of producers as assembled in Rangiotu before this association sprang into existence, the result of the organising of the Dairy Farmers’ Union. Some extent of the work may be gauged when it is stated that one and atialf tons of sulphuric acid will be required for this season’s operations alone. Mr W. H. Singleton, of the Government dairy division, has congratulated the members upon the good work that has been so successfully carried out during the 192324 season. 'The secretary has received numerous applications from all parts of New Zealand for particulars of the system adopted and which enabled this important work to he carried out with such success and at such a small cost. The average cost of testing 25,000 cows in the Waikato was Is per cow above Rangiotu. What is sometimes termed the apathy of the dairy farmer lias proved non-existent by the almost universal interest displayed. The amicable 'and intelligent discussion which prevailed throughout all the meetings of the association must assure every member of increased production with considerable monetary results through their efforts in this direction.
