PHILATELIC SOCIETY.
PROGRESS REPORTED AT MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Manawatu Philatelic Society was held on Wednesday evening, Mr W. W. Jones (president) presiding over a good attendance. The offers of Messrs Braik, C. C. Francis, A. M. Spilman ami W. W. Jones to defray the cost of a scries of advertisements, which it was decided should be inserted in the ''Standard," were accepted with thanks. It was resolved to institute a system of lectures by members, the speaker to be determined by ballot. A ballot then taken resulted in Mr R. Hope being selected to give the initial address. Messrs Rolston, 5 (Levin)„ P. Braik (Whakaronga). G. H. C. Hussey (Dannevirke), Rev T. Coatsworth (Pukckohe), T. Jordan (Oxford, Canterbury) and J. Mewett (Palmerston North) were elected new members. It was reported that the membership of the society, which was established three months ago, was now 40. It was decided that members desiring to use th/i facilities of the organisation for exchange purposes and as dealers should ptry a fee additional to the membership charge and to be determined on consideration of individual cases. Tire society accepted with thanks the offer of a meeting room free of chargo from Mr W. Hunter. Mr Braik presented the society with a number of philatelic magazines. The president gave au instructive address on and displayed specimens of the first issue of New Zealand (full face queen) and Coolc Islands stamps. Many stamps changed hands and a pleasant and profitable evening was spent. Accounts totaflinsc 17s 6d wero passed for payment.
