VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE.

IN CENTRAL AMERICA. NEW YORK, June 26. A telegram from San Jose, California, says that an earthquake, approximately of the same violence as tlie recent Japaneseone, centred probably in Central America, and continuing for an hour and a-half, was registered at Santa Clara University. It started at six o'clock to-night.—A. and N. Z. cable.

Received Juno 27, "8.5 a.m. SYDNEY, June 2G.

The Sydney Rivcrview observatory reports that a most severe earthquake was recorded and is probably in the vicinity of Port Moresby.—Press Association.
