Y.M.C.A. DIRECTORS.
MONTHLY MEETING
The monthly meeting of directors of the local Y.M.C.A. was held last night, Mr M. 11. Oram presiding over an attendance comprising Messrs J. Balsillie. W. 15. Cameron, J. 11. Dick. C. 10. llistecl, G. C. Keeble. E. L. Foddy, R. A. Brace, J. H. Stevens, S. W. Wells and the general secretary, Mr A. Gardiner. The report of the general secretary stated that the assistant secretary, Mr D. M. Wright, was recovering from an illness but would not resume his duties for at least another week. Mr D. Maddox, who had spent three months at- the Pahnerston North Y.M.C.A. training for a position as an employed officer of that organisation elsewhere, had completed his term on May 27. Air R. S. Abraham. Boy Scout Commissioner, had been granted permission to address the executive on the Boy Scout movement. —The report was adopted, the physical culture committee being deputed to make suitable arrangements for a scheme regarding Y.M.C.A. activities in connection with the scouts.
The membership committee reported as follows: At our meeting on June sth, after a thorough discussion, we recognised the futility of our committee attempting to secure the large number of new members required without the active assistance of the entire membership. We therefore decided to launch a "one-get-one" membership campaign. Every device the committee could think of to make this campaign "go," has been employed.—The report was adopted, and eleven members of the board present undertook to actively assist in working up a membership rally. The report of the physical culture committee stated, inter aha: At the conclusion r/ the basket-ball competition, in which six teams competed, a complimentary dinner was given by the losing teams to the winners, No. 1 team. Advantage was taken of this occasion to have Mr J. C. Young speak in support of the "one-get-one" campaign. Indoor pentathlon contest: The ordinary routine of the senior class on Monday, 2nd June, was cancelled and an indoor athletic contest was held, 37 members competing. .Members of the senior, employed boys, and high school boys' classes were medically examined, no abnormal cases being reported. It was decided to recommend to the board that an athletic membership be instituted to apply to cricket only. Mr Cameron was asked to give details of tho matter to the board.—The report was adopted, the last recommendation being referred to the membership committee. The grounds committee put forward a scheme for improving the grounds in front of the buildings and it was decided to ask the committee to have the work done by a working bee before next meeting. It was decided to invite members of the Borough Council to attend a special physical drill display to be given by the senior class.
