PLUMBERS & GASFITTERS.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 7. An application by the New Zealand Federated Plumbers' and Gasfitters' Industrial Association of Workers for a Dominion award was before the Conciliation Council to-day. Applications for exemption were made on behalf of the Christchureh and Wellington Gas Companies, Now Zealand .Freezing Companies, and the Wellington Harbour Board, and after argument were referred to the Court. It was urged by the union that gas companies were in competition with employers, and what was wanted was to be able to call men out alter hours and ptty them ordinary rates while in such circumstances." An ordinary emplover would be required to pay overtime. The freezing companies were also at times in competition with other employers.
