The weather this morning was fine with passing clouds making the light variable. A faint breeze from the left at times stirred tho flags, but many men found it unnecessary to make any allowance. A start was made with the first contest of the Belt series, the Marlborough match, ten shots each at 300 and SCC yards, and the shooting was very warm at tho first range, several possibles being rung on by tho marksmen, including Siimnonds, llogg, Connor, and McLean. Forty-ninos were numerous. Going back to the longer range the scoring was still warm and among the first finishers Connor (Okawa) just missed the possible, lie got up with his match total at 99 out of 100, and is unlikely to be beaten. F. Whiteman (Subfirbs) put on 50-48-98 and James (Napier) 49-48-97. Baristow and J. C. Carter (Lintonl also scored 97, while 96's were plentiful the latter including Simmonds, Croxton, King, Reeki (a tyro). Hood, 11. Cromie (who finished the last range with the possible), Harris, Orsborne and Nix. LATER.
