I'riendships of a life-time have been nnt asunder, deposits withdrawn from one bank and placed in another ; and boycotts declared against certain merchants, while heated discussions, approaching dangerously near to fistic encounters, occur daily, because the Darwinian, or as it is popularly put. ‘man descended from monkey’ theory is being taught at the local high school. Kentucky has a law which forbids the teaching of human evolution in those institutions which receive State support. Members of Springfield churches alleged that the superintendent of the high school is disobeying the law and the pro-Dar-winians have come to his rescue with turbulent results. Prominent speakers are being brought in by both sides, and the enmity is reaching a surprising degree.”—A. and N.Z. cable.
