HIGGINS BEFORE THE COURT.

(Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, Feb. 11

John Christopher Higgins appeared at, the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Stringer and a jury charged with the murder of two hoys by shooting at the Waikino schoolhouse on October 19. Accused, wjio was represented hv Mr J. J. Sullivan, pleaded not guilty. As Mr Meredith, Crown Prosecutor, in opening the case, told how the little boy McLean pleaded in vain for his life, the women in the court wept and occasionally sobs were heard as other heart-rending incidents were related. Mr Reid, tho schoolmaster, said tho accused had a strange look during the conversation with witness. Witness considered that Higgins was mad. lie thought had ho been rational the prisoner would have taken some notice of witness’s pleading not to shoot at the children.

The evidence is proceeding on the lines of the trial in tho lower court.
