RAILWAY MISHAP.
ENGINE DERAILED AT GREATFORD. A shunting mishap, in which an engine was derailed, occurred at Greatford about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The engine was attached to the Wanganui-Palmerston North mixed train, which reaches here at 5 o’clock. After arrival at Greatford the engine was uncoupled to do some shunting, but, as it took the crossing at the Wanganui end of the station, it left the rails. The cause of the derailment has not yet been made known, but no one was injured. A breakdown gang end outfit were despatched from Marton and at about 5.30 p.m. the line at that point was clear again. The mishap, however, had the effect of holding up both north bound Auckland expresses for some time, and other trains travelling on that line after the mishap. The New Plvmouth express was not delayed, the derailment occurring after its passage through Greatford.
