CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH. (Per Pres 3 Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. July 18. The 16th biennial municipal conference opened with an attendance of 30 delegates, presided over by Mr Flesher, Mayor of Christchurch. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Sir William Eraser was carried. Mr Flesher, in welcoming the delegates, said that it was the first time the conference had been held outside of Wellington. Tho following remits were carried: From Mount Albert: That the law be amended so as to provide that the entire cost of rolls required by electric power boards be defrayed by the boards. From Dunedin, urging an increase ,of the State contribution to fire boards for the protection afforded State property, and also fixing' the end of the lire brigades' year for March 31, with demands on local bodies during March. From Mount Albert, asking that the Health Act be amended so as to prevent milk deliveries during the hours of nightsoil collections. A Foxton remit, fixing fire board contributions at insurance companies 6Q per cent, local bodies 30 per cent, and the Government 10 per cent, Was lost. , A remit from the Sanitary Inspectors Association, urging that all competent persons in the Municipal Corporations Act should be defined as the holders of certain certificates, was lost. • >
