FIVE CHARGES OF THEFT.

WELLINGTON, July 4. • At the Supreme Court to-day Thomas Heurv Jones appeared for sentence on five charges of theft at Dannevirke. Jones was formerly well-known in Wellington as an accountant and as secretary of the Wellington Rugby Union. He also went to Australia as manager of the' All Black team. He had pleaded guilty to the theft of £3OB and there are other charges not yet preferred involving £230 belonging to the State Fire Department. Accused's counsel said that Jones had made a great mistake in not going bankrupt but trying to carry on. The chief justice said he could not grant probation, but would make as great a concession as possible. Acused was sentenced to six months at Waikare.
