KIRKWOOD PLAYING WELL. LONDON, June 21. For the first round of match play at Gleneagles, there was brilliant weather. Kirkwood defeated Oko, four up and three; Havers beat Cutchart, the Scottish chainuion, one up; Barnes beat Holland, four up and two; Braid beat W. Ball, four up and tliree. Other winners were Williamson, Seymour, Ockenden, P. Ball, Ritchie and Dc'latorre, who is a Spaniard, Twine, Johns, Lockhart, Gray and McNeill. Kirkwood played magnificently, going out. in 35 and homo (six holes) in 23. Havers had a fortunate win after a ding-dong light, lie cut his drive at the 17th into some broom, hut had a good lie where the hall inight have been unplayable. Duncan failed to qualify. In the second round Kirwood beat Ockenden. 4 up and 3; Ritchie beat Barnes, 1 up; Twine beat Johns, 2 up; Lockhart beat Gray, 1 up; Braid beat McNeill, 2 up and 1; Seymour beat Williamson, 2 up and 1; Bull beat Hay, 3 up and 1; Havers beat Delatorre, 3up and 2.—A. and N.Z. cable.
