REDUCED TAXATION.
COMPARISON OF THREE YEARS,
How Uio taxation per head of the population in New Zealand has fallen during the past three years is illustrated by interesting comparisons from statistics now available (states the Dominion.) Preliminary figures of revenue from taxation for the year ended March 31, 1923, are now available, and compare as follows with those for the two preceding financial years •
‘Preliminary figures. The fall of over £2,000,000 in income tax payments in 1922-23 as cornp,Wit I with 1921-22 gives an indication of the financial stress experienced during 1921, the tax of one year being, of course, assessed on the income of the preceding year. An increase of nearly £1,000,000 in Customs revenue is the principal factor responsible for bringing the total taxation for 1922-23 within £BOO,OOO of that for tho previous year.
