BRITISH LEGION.
PRINCE OF WALES’S PRAISE
LONDON, May 20
There were 2089 branches of the British Legion in Britain at the close of last year, according to the report of Earl Haig to the annual conference at the Queen’s Hall. The Legion found employment for 10,000 men. The Prince of Wales, who was received with enthusiastic applause, in a tribute lo the usefulness of the Legion, said that it maintained the spirit of comradeship. Between 3000 and 4000 members of the Legion marched to-day to the Cenotaph for an impressive memorial service, in which the clergy and choir of Westminster Abbey and the band of the Irish Guards took part. The Prince of Wales, on behalf of the Legion, laid on the Cenotaph a wreath of laurels and Flanders poppies, and Princess Alice another on behalf of the women’s branch of the Legion.
